Introduction

We are committed to providing a friendly, safe, and welcoming environment for all participants in our community, regardless of their background or identity. This Code of Conduct outlines our expectations for participant behavior and the consequences of unacceptable conduct.

Purpose

The purpose of this Code of Conduct is to ensure that all community members have a positive experience. It applies to all spaces managed by the project, including but not limited to Discord channels, forums, GitHub repositories, and in-person events.

Expected Behavior

All participants are expected to:

  • Be Respectful: Treat everyone with respect and consideration. Be courteous and polite in all interactions.
  • Be Inclusive: Welcome and support people of all backgrounds and identities. This includes, but is not limited to, members of any race, ethnicity, culture, national origin, social and economic class, educational level, color, immigration status, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, age, size, family status, political belief, religion, and mental and physical ability.
  • Communicate Constructively: Focus on what is best for the community. Provide and accept constructive feedback.
  • Respect Privacy: Do not share private information about others without their consent.
  • Be Considerate: Remember that decisions you make will affect others. Consider the consequences before taking action.

Unacceptable Behavior

Unacceptable behaviors include, but are not limited to:

  • Harassment: Any form of harassment, intimidation, or discrimination.
  • Abuse: Insults, derogatory comments, or personal attacks.
  • Disruptive Behavior: Sustained disruption of discussions or events.
  • Inappropriate Content: Posting or sharing content that is offensive, harmful, or violates community standards.
  • Violence and Threats: Threatening or encouraging others to commit acts of violence.
  • Illegal Activities: Participation in or encouragement of any illegal activities.

Reporting Violations

If you witness or experience behavior that violates this Code of Conduct, please report it to the Code of Conduct Enforcement Committee at our discord. All reports will be handled with discretion and confidentiality.

When reporting, please include:

  • Your contact information.
  • Names (real or usernames) of those involved.
  • A description of the incident, including date, time, and location.
  • Any supporting evidence (e.g., screenshots, links).

Enforcement

The Code of Conduct Enforcement Committee is responsible for investigating reports and determining appropriate actions. Responses to violations may include:

  • Warning: A private or public warning to the offender.
  • Temporary Ban: Temporary removal from community spaces.
  • Permanent Ban: Permanent removal from all community spaces and activities.
  • Reporting to Authorities: If necessary, reporting to appropriate legal authorities.

The Committee will inform the reporter of the outcome when appropriate.

Appeals

If you believe that a decision made by the Enforcement Committee is unjust, you may appeal by contacting the Governing Board at Discord. The appeal must include a detailed explanation of your concerns.

Acknowledgments

This Code of Conduct is inspired by best practices from open-source communities and is designed to foster a positive and inclusive environment.

Modifications

Any modifications to this Code of Conduct are made by a vote of the Governing Board as defined in the KoG Project Charter.
